Obituary

AUGUSTA - Gerald A. 'Jerry' Mitton I, 66, of Augusta died Friday, April 10, 2009, at his home. He was born in Waterville on Dec. 23, 1942, the son of Robert E. and Alice (Jaquith) Mitton. Jerry grew up in East Vassalboro and entered the Army in 1964. He served during the Vietnam era and spent 13 months in Korea. When he returned from the service, Jerry worked as a window-and-door installer for many years. He was employed by Augusta Specialty, Carefree Homes and J&M Campers. He also worked as a guard at Statler Tissue for five years. Mr. Mitton was a Shriner in the Kora Temple Shrine for 30 years; a Mason in Bethlehem Lodge in Augusta for 30 years; a member of American Legion Post 126 in Vassalboro; past commander and life member, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 887; and a life member of Elks Lodge 964. Jerry enjoyed camping, bowling, Shriners activities and his two pugs, Chico and Jack. Jerry is survived by his son, Gerald A. Mitton II and his fiance?, Erica Rowe, of Augusta; his daughter, Marie Beaudoin and her husband, Michael, of Augusta; his sisters, Jane Cardona and her husband, Raymond, of Detroit, and Barbara Pearce, of Bath; his former wife, Patsy Mitton; and his grandchildren, Michael Beaudoin II, Christopher Beaudoin, Kayla Beaudoin, Marissa Mitton and Alexis Mitton. A chapel committal service will take place at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, at the new Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road in Augusta.
