New Gloucester ? Gertrude Urquhart Masterman, 88, of New Gloucester and formerly of Winthrop, died Wednesday, January 17, 2007 at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. Gertrude was born in Winthrop, MA on July 4, 1918, daughter of Arthur and Gertrude (Dowell) Urquhart. She graduated from Braintree High School in Braintree, MA, and as valedictorian of Fisher College in Boston. Prior to marriage, she worked for two years as an executive secretary for the Fiske Teachers Agency and for Currier and Co., both located in Boston. She was married in 1942 to Donald Gage Masterman and was predeceased by him in December of 1982. They resided in Massachusetts and Milwaukee, Wisconsin before moving to Maine. Gertrude summered in Winthrop for many years at her parent?s places on Lake Annabessacook and Lake Maranacook. She attended the Winthrop Congregational Church and was a member of the Martindale County Club in Auburn and the Women?s Auxiliary of Alfred W. Maxwell, Jr, Post #40 in Winthrop. Her hobbies included investments, reading, crosswords, antiques, and traveling. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald, and by her brothers, Richard and William Urquhart. She is survived by her son, Bradley Gage Masterman, of Madison, Ohio; two grandsons, Steven of Minnesota and Thomas of Ohio; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. A celebration of Gertrude?s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 23rd in the chapel at the old Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Civic Center Drive in Augusta. Arrangements are in the care of Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop.
