AUGUSTA - Glenys Christine Snow, 90, formerly of Augusta and a resident for the past six years at Lakewood Continuing Care Center in Waterville, died Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at Inland Hospital in Waterville. She was born in Wilton on Sept. 6, 1920, the daughter of Charles Marshall and Elizabeth Frances (Howland) Waldron. Glenys graduated from Cony High School and in the early 1940s attended Gates Business College. She married Russell Snow on Aug. 7, 1942, at Green Street United Methodist Church in Augusta. She held various jobs out of high school, which included working at the Maine State Police barracks and with the Industrial Accident Commission, which became Workman's Compensation, from 1951 until retiring, after 40 years as a stenographer. Glenys enjoyed knitting and sewing, and belonged to the Women's International Bowling Congress where, in the 1970s and 1980s, she competed in bowling tournaments all over the country in places such as Las Vegas, Hawaii and Niagara Falls. Glenys was predeceased by her husband, Russell; and her brother, Glenwood Waldron. She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Leighton, and her husband, Donald, of West Gardiner; her son, Brian Snow; three grandchildren: Kim Leighton of West Gardiner, Wendy Greenlaw and her husband, Brian, of Madawaska, and Shannon Watkins and her husband, Dan, of Topsham; 14 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Augusta. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
