AUGUSTA ? Harold D. Green, 81, of Augusta, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001, at the Maine Veterans' Home, after a long illness. He was born in Augusta, Oct. 10, 1920, the son of Ralph Dewey and Doris Vera (Peasley) Green. He served in various branches of the military, ending his career with the Marine Corps 2nd Marine Division, combat engineers, as a staff sergeant. Harold went to work for Hudson Pulp and Paper Co. in 1946, then continued with Statler Tissue for 45 years, holding the position of foreman. He retired in 1993. He was a communicant of St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Augusta. He was a 50-year member of Elks Lodge 964, in Augusta. He was an avid fisherman and a registered Maine Guide, who enjoyed fishing at Moosehead Lake for many years. Survivors include his wife, Lucille (Bedard) Green, of Augusta; three stepdaughters, Martha Ross, of Jefferson, Georgette Valliere, and her husband, Robert Jr., of Augusta, and Josette Trott, and her husband, David, of Amesbury, Mass.; a stepson, Jerry Pepin, and his wife, Susan, of Augusta; a sister, Virginia Crabtree, and her husband, Clayton, of Augusta; many step-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Harold was predeceased by his first wife, Priscilla (Prime) Green; two brothers, Alton and William H. Green; three sisters, Mildred Breton, Gloria Foster and Flora 'Dolly' Howell. Relatives and friends may visit from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta. The Elks will have a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael Seavey officiating. Military honors and burial will follow at the new Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta.
