Obituary

WINTHROP- Harold E. "Gene" Holden, 95, died on June 8, 2022, at Hospice and Palliative Care Unit Togas Springs in Augusta. Born in Augusta on July 12, 1926, son of the late Goldie (Keene) Holden ad Harold Charles Holden. He received his education in Augusta Public Schools. Gene worked at Bath Iron Works as a Welder in the beginning of WW II. He enlisted in the Navy as a Shipfitter in July 1944. He was honorably discharged from the US Navy in June 1946. After returning from the service Gene owned and operated a garage and filling station in Bangor for many years. He later worked at Wadlieghs Inc. and Kennebec Oil as a Manager of the heating oil division for 40 years until his retirement. In 1949 Gene married Louise G. (Hubbard) Holden. He was a 32nd degree Mason and was Past President of Tri City Oil Dealers as well as a longtime member of the Hillandalers Snowmobile Club. Gene is survived by his son Timothy E. Holden and his wife Brenda, his grandson Justin Holden and his wife Amanda, his granddaughters Tamothy Louten and her husband Daniel and granddaughter Carrie Reynolds. He is also survived by his four great grandchildren Jade Conners, Kadence Holden, Landon Louten and River Louten, his sister-in-law Barbara Hubbard as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his loving wife Louise and his parents, Gene was predeceased by his brother Edward Holden and his sister Helen Cole. Gene's graveside service with military honors will be on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at 1:00 PM at Mount Hope Cemetery, Augusta. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
