Winthrop ~ Herbert Elwin Crocker, Sr., 93, died Sunday February 2, 2014 at Heritage Rehabilitation and Living Center. He was born at home in Winthrop on January 20, 1921, the son of Elwin and Hazel (Berry) Crocker. Herbert grew up in Readfield, Dallas TX, and eventually back to Winthrop. He was the oldest of nine children and graduated from Winthrop High School in 1939. On May 19, 1940, he married Olga Burnell and together they raised 13 children. They were married for 51 years. Herb worked for Carleton Woolen Mills for 10 years before going to work for the State of Maine Dept. of Transportation, retiring in 1976. He enjoyed watching the Patriots, the Red Sox, hunting and fishing. He was predeceased by his wife Olga; his sons, Charlie, Henry and Herbert Crocker Jr.; a daughter Bonnie and baby girl Crocker; his brothers Francis, Melvin, Carroll, Glendon and Bruce; and his sisters Betty Lyons and Mary Ferguson; He is survived by his daughters, Tammy Beland and her husband Stephen of Winthrop; Cynthia Yarnes and her husband Erick of Kenai, Alaska; Pearl Peterson and her husband Nelson of Readfield; Marcia Lewis of Winthrop; his sons David Crocker and his wife Sherry of Pittston; Alan Crocker and Thomas Lewis of Augusta; Leslie Crocker and his wife Mary of Winthrop and Donald Crocker and his fianc Lili of Portland; also a sister Maxine Getchell and her husband Fred of Gardiner, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. There will be no visiting at this time and a graveside service will be held in the spring at Glenside Cemetery in Winthrop. The family wishes to thank the staff at Heritage Manor and HealthReach Hospice for all they have done for Herbert over the years. Arrangements are in the care of Roberts Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop where memories, condolences and photos may be shared with the family on the obituary page of the website at www.khrfuneralhomes.com
