HALLOWELL - Hugh J. 'Bucky' Andrews, 86, died Sunday, Nov. 20, 2005, at Maine Veterans Home in Augusta. He was born in Hallowell on Sept. 7, 1919, the son of Hugh J. and Ilene (Waterhouse) Andrews. Following his graduation from Hallowell High School in 1939, Bucky married the love of his life, Ella Rich, on Oct. 12, 1940, in Hallowell. He was employed by Bath Iron Works until 1943 before serving in the Pacific during World War II in the Navy. Following his enlistment and honorable discharge from the Navy, Bucky was employed for 34 years at Augusta Supply until retiring in 1980. In his retirement, he continued working for, and became vice president of, Augusta Pipe & Supply. He was past master of the Masonic Lodge in Hallowell and a member of the Kora Shrine and the Kora Shrine Chanters in Lewiston. Bucky was an animal lover who enjoyed camping and spending summers on Tacoma Lakes. He was a great family man who will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends. Bucky is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Ella Andrews, of Hallowell; his son, Thomas H. Andrews and wife, Sylvia, of Fayette; his daughter, Carol Auger and husband, Lawrence J., of Farmingdale; two brothers, Charles Andrews of Augusta and Donald Andrews of Reading, Mass.; three sisters, Beverly Bickford of Waterville, Leone Marble of Augusta and Betty Veillieux of Fairfield; five grandchildren, Sharon Hayden and husband Matthew, of Farmingdale, Susan Sandborn and husband Ben, of Augusta, Jeffrey Auger of Farmingdale, Rebecca Travis of Fayette and Joseph Andrews of Gardiner; two great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Hayden and Anthony Travis; and one aunt, Hazel Tracy, of South Gardiner. Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 22, at Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta. A celebration of Bucky's life will be held at the funeral home at 10 a.m. on Wednesday with the Rev. Donald Davenport officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Hallowell Cemetery.
