AUGUSTA- Ida Belle Sawyer, 97, passed away peacefully July 28, 2025, surrounded by family in Augusta, ME.
Ida was born in Fort Collins, CO. She attended school there, adult school in Denver, Colo. and Bible school in Canada.
She enjoyed walking, watching Boston Red Sox games on television, and family events. She was a woman of faith and enjoyed reading her Bible and praying for others.
She was the last surviving of 10 siblings. She was predeceased by her husband, Jack Sawyer; parents Thomas and Ida Lanyon; brothers Albert, Clarence, Raymond, Louis and Charles; and sisters Mona, Arleen, Celia and Jaqueline.
Ida is survived by her children Sandy Parker Bennett, Roy Whittemore (Darlene), Alan Isbell (Wendy), Ray Whittemore (Debbie) and Anita Peace (Jim), as well as 21 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life is set at Church Hill Baptist Church, 258 Church Hill Rd. in Augusta at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 5. It will be live-streamed from church website.
