Obituary

READFIELD - James V. Elliott, 72, of Readfield passed away Monday, May 1, 2006, at Heritage Rehabilitation and Living Center in Winthrop. He was born in Orono July 31, 1933, the son of Wallace and Marie (Watson) Elliott. He graduated from Orono schools and forestry school in Nova Scotia. He served in the Navy during the Korean War on the USS Arcadia and continued his service to country in the Maine National Guard for a total of 32 years. He was an E-8 when he retired from the Guard. He worked for the Department of Conservation as a watchperson on Lead Mountain and later as a warehouseman. He was Smokey the Bear, both mechanical and costume, for several years. James retired in 1987. In his retirement, he enjoyed woodworking and working on his boat. Mr. Elliot is survived by his wife of 24 years, Sheila (Jackson) Elliott; a son, Eric Elliott and his wife, Angela, of Augusta; a daughter, Lynn Marie LaFlam, of Augusta; his grandchildren, Chelsie L. Canwell, Keako Marie Elliott, Jarvis J. Elliott, Samantha M. Elliott, Dylan M. Elliott and Natasha M. Elliott and extended family, Alan Smith and his family, of Waldoboro. There will not be any services. Donations may be made in his name to the American Lung Association, Maine Chapter, 122 State St., Augusta, ME 04330. Arrangements are in the care of Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop.
