AUGUSTA- James L. Young (Jim) of Augusta, Maine passed away October 19, 2025, at the age of 89 at the Maine Veterans Home in Augusta with family by his side. He was born June 4th, 1936, son of Donald and Dorothy Young. Jim attended Cony High School where he lettered in Track and Field, enjoyed History classes, and graduated in 1954. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1956 and was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. Jim received his Honorable Release from Active Duty in 1958 and returned to Augusta. In 1960 he started his career as a fireman in the Augusta Fire Department. He became an EMT and was instrumental in setting up the Ambulance service in the Fire Department, earned an Associates Degree in Fire Safety Technology from the University of Southern Maine, and received a commendation from the Augusta City Council for "action above and beyond the call of duty" for a bomb threat incident on the Memorial Bridge. Jim ultimately achieved the rank of Battalion Chief before retiring in 1979. After retiring he lived in Carrabassett Valley for twenty years before moving back to Augusta. Jim enjoyed woodworking in the workshop at his house, he loved to play cards and cribbage, and he kept the neighborhood squirrels and cats well fed! Jim is predeceased by his parents Donald and Dorothy, his sister JoAnn Young-Robinson, and his brother William Young. He is survived by Carol Glockler and their children, Douglas James Young of Gardiner and his spouse Lynn Young, and Tracie Carolin Morand of Sidney and her spouse Dr. Richard Morand, his sisters Joyce Young-Turcotte and Alice Young of Randolph, grandchildren Rebecca Keene and her spouse Matt, Austyn Carolin, Cameron Young, Colby Carolin and his spouse Nicole, step grandsons Jonathan Truman, Kyle Morand, and step granddaughter Allison Truman, as well as five great grandchildren Kyla Young, Noah Young, Ava Young, Luna Keene, and Isabel Carolin.
