Obituary

AUBURN - Jamsie Couture, 97, passed away Feb. 7, 2008, at the Hospice House in Auburn, following a brief illness. She had been a resident at Sarah Frye Home since October, 2002. Jamsie was born Jan. 27, 1911, on Mt. Pisgah Road in Winthrop, the daughter of James and Grace (Frost) Dudley. She was educated in Monmouth schools, spending most of her early years in North Monmouth. Growing up, she loved to ice skate on the Mill Pond in North Monmouth. Later, she spent many happy evenings dancing at Island Park, Moonglow and other nearby spots. For many years, she worked in local mills, notably Libby Mills in Lewiston and Carleton Woolen Mills in Winthrop. Jamsie loved gardening and, in her later years, was known for the beautiful flowers that graced the corner of Bowdoin and Central streets in Winthrop. She was predeceased by both her husbands, Merle F. Curtis and Raymond Couture; her two children, Faye and Dudley, who died in infancy; and her sisters, Mattie Hooker, formerly of Winthrop, and Mamie Dunn and Angie Wallace, both formerly of Monmouth. She is survived by several nieces and nephews, one of whom was her special caregiver, Marge Webber. There was a loving place in her heart for Robert Strout, of Austin, Texas, who was like a son to both Jamsie and Merle. A committal service will be held in the spring at Glenside Cemetery in Winthrop. Arrangements are in the care of Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop. In lieu of cards and flowers, those who wish may make a donation in her memory to AHCH Hospice House Fund, Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice, P.O. Box 819, Lewiston, ME 04243; or to the Sarah Frye Home, 751 Washington St. North, Auburn, ME 04210. www.khrfuneralhomes.com
