SIDNEY- Janeann Watson Perkins, 79 of Sidney, Maine passed away August 27, 2026. She was born on August 15, 1947 in Augusta, Maine to the late Helen L and Melvin Dana Watson Jr.
She went to Winthrop Maine schools and graduated from Winthrop High School class of 1965. She graduated from Gates Business College with an Associates degree in secretarial science in 1966.
Jane worked for the State of Maine for many years as a secretary in the Attorney Generals Criminal Division, Executive secretary to the Maine Attorney's Generals John Lund, James Tierney, Michael Carpenter, Andrew Ketterer, and Steven Rowe. She retired from the State of Maine in June of 2004.
She married the love of her life Richard Perkins on November 2, 1971. They have one son Brian Alan Perkins.
Jane was an avid reader. While she enjoyed many subjects, she was most interested in detective stories. She also enjoyed knitting and taught many of her friends to knit as well as helping them when they encountered problems, Jane also enjoyed animals and supported local animal shelters for years. She had a special place in her heart for cats and had several throughout her lifetime. Jane never met one she did not love. Jane was a very good cook, family and friends cherished her casseroles-especially her homemade baked beans and lasagna. Her favorite food though was ice cream from Fielder's Chioce, in Manchester, Maine. She and Dick would make multiple stops each week no matter the weather or time of year.
Dick and Brian would like to thank the staff at the Balsam House Assisted Living Home in Readfield, Maine for the care and comfort they provided to Jane during her stay-especially in the weeks prior to her passing. They also would like to thank the members of Maine General Medical Center's Hospice Team who worked so hard to keep her comfortable in the month of August.
She is survived be her husband of 55 years, Richard E. Perkins of Sidney, Maine and her son, Brian of Augusta, Maine.
Jane will be laid to rest in the Maine Veterans Cemetery near her mother and father. It was Jane's wishes that there be no wake, funeral, celebration of life or burial service. Arrangements and guidance are under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin Street, Winthrop, ME.
