WINTHROP ? Janet Michelle Cookson, 16, of Winthrop, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2001, at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston from injuries suffered in an automobile accident. She was born in Brunswick, July 16, 1985, the daughter of Kevin and Susan (Cole) Cookson. Janet was educated in Winthrop schools and was a sophomore at Winthrop High School. She was projected to be at the top of her graduating class of 2004. While at Winthrop High School, Janet was a football cheerleader, a member of the Winthrop High School soccer and nordic ski teams, and the Winthrop High School Latin Club and choir. Janet was a member of the Winthrop Middle School track and nordic ski teams, and in grade school, she participated in the Winthrop Area YMCA softball program. She also enjoyed gymnastics, her theater activities, and baton twirling. Janet loved animals and had a sweet, cheerful nature. She had really great friends and was a really great friend to them. To know Janet was to love her, and she will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her parents, Kevin and Susan Cookson, of Winthrop; her sister, Amy Rebecca Cookson; her maternal grandmother, Mrs. Marjorie R. Cole, of North New Portland; her paternal grandmother, June Cookson, of Randolph; a special aunt and uncle, Patrick and Debbie Cote, and their sons Joshua, of Monmouth, and Christopher, of Hendersonville, N.C.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. She was predeceased by her maternal grandfather, George E. Cole, in 2001, and her paternal grandfather, Harry Cookson. Relatives and friends may visit 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop. A ceremony honoring Janet's life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Rev. Don Williams officiating. Burial will be in the spring.
