WAYNE-Jean E Osgood Dorson 88, of Wayne, died at Heritage Rehab & Living Center in Winthrop on December 9, 2023. She was born on May 3, 1935, at Central Maine General Hospital, Lewiston, the daughter of Wallace & Marguerite "Mike" Rand Osgood.
She graduated from Wilton Academy, class of 1953. She then went on to study accounting, shorthand
and medical terminology at Bliss College in Lewiston.
She married Robert Joel Dorson in Wilton who at the time was stationed at Brunswick Naval Air Station
after returning from Korea where he served in the Air Force. He died from lung cancer in 1958.
In 1961 Jean and her son Danny moved to Wayne with her parents. She became a Sunday School
teacher, the Acolyte Leader for 32 years, was a Minta Class member, Financial Secretary for 41 years.
Also, a Senior Citizen Trips Coordinator, a member of the Administrator Council, the Wayne Church
Historian and Editor of the "Wayne Messenger" for 37 years.
Jean also taught baton twirling, tumbling and gymnastics (Wayne Pep Squad), at the Elementary School,
and in the summer was employed as a secretary at Camp Menatoma for boys, Readfield, and then
became the administrative secretary at the Wayne Elementary School for 20 years where she was also
employed as the secretary of the Wayne Community Church for 20 years.
Jean was also a member of the Wayne Historical Society where served as the secretary, member of the
Cary Memorial Library, a volunteer for the Kindergarten Rookie Readers Program at the school.
Jean was awarded the 2011 Spirit of America Award not only by the town, but also by the members of
the State Senate and the House of Representatives for her volunteer work over the years.
Mrs. Dorson is survived by her son and Daughter-in-law, Daniel Dorson and Sue Parent-Dorson; two
granddaughters, Amanda Post, Mt. Vernon, and Katrina Dorson, Cape Elizabeth and Danielle Parent,
Sabattus; Marion Hinds, Port St. Lucie, FL; nieces and nephews, Barbi Castonguay, Kenneth Osgood,
Ronda McLaughlin, Dawna Klinko, Lynn Butner, Michael Hinds, and their families.
Mrs. Dorson was predeceased by her parents, Wallace and "Mike" Osgood-Holbrook, her twin brother,
Jack Osgood, and his wife, Joanne Osgood; and her sister, Joan Caouette.
A memorial service will be held on May 3, 2024.
