Obituary

WINTHROP - Jean E. Fontaine, 80, of Highland Avenue died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004, at Nicholson's Longterm Care and Rehabilitation Center, Winthrop. She was born in Livermore Falls on Feb. 3, 1924, the daughter of Laurin and Lena (Wagner) Rhodenizer. Jean graduated from Livermore Falls High School, Colby College in 1946 and obtained her master's degree in English from the University of Maine, Orono. She taught English for many years in Cape Elizabeth, Mount Blue and Winthrop, and continued to substitute teach after her retirement. Jean enjoyed reading, quilting, gardening and traveling, especially her trips to England and Ireland. She was a member of the Maine State Retired Teachers Association and Phi Beta Kapa. She was predeceased by a brother, Harold Rhodenizer. She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Raymond H. Fontaine of Winthrop; a son, Raymond J. Fontaine of East Livermore; a daughter, Carmen Persichini of Avon, Mass.; a brother, Richard Rhodenizer of Scotia, N.Y.; two sisters, Greta Gordon of Winthrop and Constance Knight of Moultonborough, N.H.; several grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. There will be no visiting at this time. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 13, at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop. The Rev. William Gordon will officiate. Burial will be in Glenside Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Nicholson's, 96 Route 133, Winthrop 04364, or to Kennebec Valley Humane Society, Pet Haven Lane, Augusta 04330.
