Augusta- Charles Leroy Lyon, 80, our family unexpectedly lost a precious member on August 28, 2026, his 80th birthday.

First born to Robert and Dorothy Lyon, Charlie grew up as a country boy in North Augusta attending Augusta schools and graduating from Cony High. He grew up working at his parents’ business Dot’s Cash Market in Sidney then entered the army learning valuable life lessons.

Charlie and Ann moved to Belgrade Lakes village after marriage where he worked locally as a carpenter, then Frank Pomerleau flooring and after as a self-employed carpenter only to return to his family land in North Augusta where he built his dream log home with this family and friends. Charlie retired after many years as a painter for Maine General.

He was as a constant force of energy and often had many to do lists going at once. His love of the outdoors was truly his sanctuary, especially around Moosehead and Ragged Lakes where he and a friend built a cabin with just a handsaw and 2 hammers. Cribbage was his favorite game often relishing in skunking his opponent. He was a true Maine character that we were so blessed to have in our lives, rarely said no to anyone and often did home repairs for friends at no charge, a tireless provider he was still cutting firewood and preserving his home-grown vegetables and family favorite pickles.

Charlie was a devoted husband of 53 years to wife Ann, father of Travis and partner Chrissy Gagnon, Jessica and fiancé Mike Clark and son Parker, his weekend task manager. He was Grandfather to Andrew and fiancé Ally, Alicia and Bethany, Ethan and Damon and great grandfather to Artel. He is also survived by sister, Lily Mae and nephew, RJ Brandt and brother, Robin Lyon, in-laws, Clem Bolduc, our wonderful Pam and husband John Kimball, Patricia Dude and aunt Rita Bolduc of Tennessee who called him “my Charlie”.

He was predeceased by many of his friends and family which truly left a deep sadness he endured quietly, especially his cousin Percy Lyon. Man of few words he loved and grieved deeply.

A Graveside Service with military honors will be held on Monday, September 14, 2026 ,at 10am at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta, ME.
