WINTHROP, MAINE—Jean Morris Koehl, 93, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mary Dyer on June 2, 2013. She was born in South Portland, Maine on March 3, 1920. Jean graduated from Sant Fe High School, attended Sargent College in Boston and received her B.S. from the University of Wisconsin in 1942. During the war while her husband served in the Navy, Jean worked on the Manhattan nuclear bomb project at Los Alamos New Mexico and later taught physical education at both Galion and Ontario school systems. Jean had a wonderful life with her husband Edgar Koehl, Jr. whom she married in 1942 and who passed away in 1974. She enjoyed an active life of golf, bridge, community service and travel including a sea cruise around the world with her best friend, Rose Melish, also of Galion. Surviving Jean are her son, Edgar Koehl III (Susan) of Galion; her daughter, Karen Hunt of Epsom, New Hampshire; and her daughter, Mary Dyer (Dick) of Winthrop, Maine. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Reed Dyer (Joanna) of Denver, Colorado, Katie Avebe (Jean) of New York City and Mary Jean Emerson (Travis) of Epsom, New Hampshire. Five great-grandchildren, Madison, James, Arabella, Estelle and Chase, also survive her. Her brothers Stalker and Bob and sister Mary Reed and son-in-law Ashley Hunt predeceased her. A private family graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 8 at 11 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery in Galion, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, donations in the memory of Jean Koehl may be made to the donor’s charity of choice.
