EAST WINTHROP ? Jeffrey Frederick Wilkins, 54, of East Winthrop died unexpectedly, Monday, Aug. 12, 2002, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta. He was born in Augusta, Aug. 1, 1948, the son of Rodney and Anna (Baker) Wilkins. Jeff grew up in East Winthrop and attended Winthrop schools. He had worked at Saunders Manufacturing for the last 33 years. He was married to Dallas (Weston) Wilkins for the past 35 years. Mr. Wilkins served on the Augusta Police Department for a time and also as a volunteer on the Winthrop Fire Department. Jeff was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed archery. He also enjoyed lifting weights and competed in weightlifting. He continued to lift at home every day until recently. Jeff also enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. Mr. Wilkins was predeceased by his father; his foster parents, Lewis and Mabel Tolman; and his uncle, Bud Baker. He is survived by his wife, Dallas; his mother, Anna Gruber; his sons, Shawn Wilkins and his girlfriend, Tina Tabb, of Readfield, and Eric Wilkins and his wife, Andrea, of Winthrop; three brothers, Hans Gruber of Oklahoma, Kurt Gruber of Connecticut and Roger King of Massachusetts; two grandchildren, Darcy and Sabrina Wilkins; his aunt, Sybil Branch of Winthrop; and his faithful companion, Beau. Relatives and friends may visit 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., where a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday.
