GARDINER - John T. Vogt, 75, of Highland Avenue, formerly of North Monmouth, died Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, at Central Maine Medical Center, Lewiston. He was born in Irvington, N.J., on Dec. 7, 1933, the son of John and Virginia (Pelham) Vogt. John graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx, N.Y., and attended Palomar College in San Diego. He served in the Army during the Korean War. After the war, he owned and operated Johnny's Corner Market in Rome, and later worked for 10 years at Statler Tissue as a lab technician. John started his own real estate appraisal business, which he operated for 20 years until his retirement in 2008. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church, the Knights of Columbus, the Kyros Prison Ministry and Alfred Maxwell Post 40 American Legion in Winthrop. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending his winters in Grant, Fla. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Florence Vogt, of Gardiner; four sons, John K. Vogt and his wife, Gail, of Belgrade, Thomas Vogt, of Mercer, Raymond Allen and his wife, Kathryn, of Leonard Town, Md., and Kenneth Allen and his companion, Elizabeth, of Winthrop; three daughters, Karen Ames and her husband, Robert, of Jefferson, Patricia Lucas and her husband, Michael, of Winthrop, and Leanne Hart and her husband, Kevin, of Winthrop; a brother, William Vogt and his wife, Martha, of Sidney; 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. There will be a gathering of family and friends from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 6, at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop, followed by a memorial Mass at St. Francis Xavier Church at 11:30 a.m. Burial with military honors will take place at 2 p.m. in the chapel at the Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta.
