Obituary

John Wing, 95, of Manchester, died unexpectedly at Kennebec Assisted Living and Respite in Farmingdale, Maine on June 27, 2026. He was born at home in Farmingdale on November 21, 1930 to Leroy Wing and Laura (Webber) Wing.

John attended schools in Farmingdale and Manchester. John was a laborer who worked at Lakeside Orchards, Everett Mace and Edwards Manufacturing (Bates Mill). He was proud of earning his electrician certificate while working at the mill. John retired early and went to work for himself. He was a hardworking man. He loved working in the woods and at his family’s dismay, was still taking his chain saw into the woods when he was in his 80’s. He cut and sold wood, hay, sold cattle and established a garbage route in Belgrade which he and Phyllis ran together for many years.

John was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, and his son, John, Jr. brothers, Roy (Pete) Wing, and Chester Wing; his sisters, Barbara Trask, Lillian Worthing and Ruth Bernier; and half-brother Frank Webber.

He is survived by his daughters, Donna Staples of Manchester and her partner Guy Rowe and her children, Richard Nickless of Jefferson, Melissa Goucher of Winthrop and her husband Doug; Sharon Wing of Winthrop, and her children, Kimberly Parlin of Pittston and Jerry Parlin of Clinton; Tina Webber of Winthrop, and her daughter Lisa Ringuette of Lewiston. He had many great grandchildren and nephews that he was fond of.

Friends and family may call Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church Street, Augusta. Visitation is on July 7, at 10 a.m. The service will be held at 11 a.m. and a graveside service at Scribner Hill Cemetery, Scribner Hill Road, Manchester, Maine.

Arrangements and guidance are in the care of Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home and Cremation Care, One Church Street, Augusta, Maine.

Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared with the family on the obituary page of the Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home website, www.khrfuneralhomes.com
