THOMASTON - Jonathan Groves Hewett, 63, of Thomaston and formerly of East Winthrop, died unexpectedly with family and friends at his side on Wednesday, May 21, 2008, at Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockland. He was born in Gray on Sept. 25, 1944, the son of Isabel Hewett. Jonathan attended Winthrop and Chelsea schools. After school, he worked for a brief time at Lipman's Poultry before being employed at the Augusta House, where he continued to work until they closed. He was very interested and active in numismatics, loved his family and friends, and liked meeting people and making new friends. A genuinely good-hearted, kind person, Jonathan never met a person he didn't like and focused on the good in everyone. He also loved his dogs and supported the local animal shelters in the areas where he had resided. He will be missed by his family and friends who so loved him, especially his foster son, Christopher Buck, whom he loved and raised since Chris was a teenager. Jonathan was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Isabel and Ernest Hewett Sr. He is survived by his mother, Isabel Hewett Lockhart, of Readfield; his companion, Donna Singer, of Thomaston and Donna's grandsons, Cameron and Gabriel, who brought joy to his life; his foster son, Christopher Buck, and his wife, Rose, and their family, of Palmyra; along with several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial celebration of Jonathan's life will be held graveside at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28, at East Winthrop Cemetery, off U.S. Route 202 in East Winthrop.
