Judith Karen Umberger, 73, passed away on July 11th, 2026 in Winthrop, Maine.
Born on November 9th 1953, Judy lived a life marked by love, resilience, adventure, and unwavering devotion to her family. As the wife of a United States Army officer, she embraced a life that took her around the world. Through every move, every challenge, and every deployment, Judy created a home filled with love and stability for her family.
Those who knew Judy knew she had a stubborn streak and an adventurous spirit. She was never afraid to face life's challenges head-on and adapted to the many changes that came with military life. Her strength, determination, and willingness to embrace new experiences left a lasting impression on everyone around her.
Judy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She found joy in spending time with family, watching Star Trek, enjoying murder mystery television shows, and treating herself to peanut M&M's.
Judy was raised in the Methodist faith and carried its values of kindness, compassion, and service throughout her life. Having Multiple Sclerosis did not deter her faith, integrity, or adventurous antics in any way.
The family she leaves behind is her greatest legacy. She will be remembered for her strength, her determination, her adventurous heart, and her incredible infectious laughter at family events. Though she will be deeply missed, her memory will live on in the stories shared by those who knew her and in the family she cherished.
She is survived by her husband, John Umberger; her daughters, Lara Umberger and Katherine Scott; her ten grandchildren, Devin Umberger, Michelle Reddy, Zoe Heimann, Alana Reddy, Bowin Scott, Devlyn Scott, Adrian Kinsey, Saddie Hilburn, Grady Jones, and Anabella Hazel; her brothers, James W. Daniels, Joel Daniels, and Jonathan Daniels; and her sister, Joyce Paige.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jeanne Bartolette Daniels and James W. Daniels Sr.
The family asks for donations to the National MS Society in place of flowers.
