Arlington, VA. - June E. Donna died Thursday March 15, 2007 at Culpepper Garden Assisted Living Center in Arlington, Virginia. She was born in Waterville, the daughter of Charles and Gertrude (Barnes) Donna. She attended Waterville schools and graduated from Waterville High School. Following two years of post-graduate work, she became a student at Gordon College in Boston for two years. She was a special student at Andover Theological Seminary for a year, after which she returned to Maine and studied at Bangor Theological Seminary, graduating from there and taking a final year at Colby College, graduating with a B.A. degree and receiving a B.D. from the Bangor Theological Seminary. During the time she was a student, she was a Student Minister for the Sidney Baptist Church for three summers, a Congregational church in Cornish, N.H for a summer and was a student weekend supply minister for three Methodist churches on the coast of Maine for several months. In 1946 June went to Washington, DC. Where she worked fist of all in the Veterans Administration, the Commerce Department, and spent the remainder of her government Career in the Pentagon, working first for the Air Force, and in 1958 transferred to the Organization of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. From 1962 to 1969 she worked for the Chairman?s Special Studies Group. In this capacity she served as secretary to 15 Generals and an Admiral until a reorganization, at which time she became secretary to General Royal B. Allison, the first Military Delegate to the Strategic Arms Negotiations. In Augusta of 1969 June came to the Office of the Assistant for Automation, a special office reporting to the Director of the Joint Staff and Organization of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. She remained in that office until her retirement from the Government on June 30, 1979 at which time she received a Certificate of Commendation. The past years have been dedicated to writing poetry. She has been recognized in anthologies of the World of Poetry and more recent, the International Society of Poetry, of which she was a lifelong member. She was also a retired member of the Association of Mental Health Clergy. She is survived by a nephew Charles R. Andrews and his wife Marguerite of Augusta; 3 nieces, Leone Marble of Augusta, Betty Veilleux of Fairfield and Geraldine Loisel of Vassalboro and many great nieces and nephews. There will be no visiting hours. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Pine Grove Cemetery, Waterville. Arrangements are in the care of Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home and Cremation Service, One Church St., Augusta.
