Obituary

AUGUSTA---Our beloved mom passed from this life, on January 16, 2022, as she lived it: with grace, and dignity, and love. She delighted everyone she knew with her good will, humor, and compassion. Many people remember June for her ever-present smile as well as her welcoming nature. June was predeceased by her husband, Samuel E. Jones, Jr., and sister, Virginia (Hildreth) Jennings (husband Richard). June is survived by her 4 children, Stephanie (Jones) O'Connell (husband Peter), Matt Jones (wife Mary), Kathy Ann (Jones) Shaw (husband Joseph W.), and David Jones (wife Gail); 3 grandchildren, Michael O'Connell, Shannon (O'Connell) Campbell (husband Drew), and Sarah Jones-Reti (husband Jay); along with 2 greatgrandchildren, Owen Campbell and Norah June Reti. June especially loved sharing her home, her meals, and her walks along the beach with all generations of her family. Born on June 24, 1928, June was raised in Newton, Massachusetts, with her sister, Virginia, by her parents, Herbert and Doris (Fox) Hildreth, owners of the famed Hildreth Candy Company of Boston, originally from Old Orchard Beach, Maine. June enjoyed art all her life, having attended the School of Practical Art in Boston, taking courses in Fashion Design, and later creating folk-art paintings she shared with her family. June married her solider-boy sweetheart, Samuel "Skip" Jones Jr., in Maine in 1949. They spent most of their lives in New Providence, New Jersey, before retiring to Boothbay, Maine, in 1984, and living among many close family members. They also enjoyed winter getaways among friends in Florida. June spent most of her later years in Hallowell, Maine. There she enjoyed relaxing day trips around the scenic area with her husband and also delighted in hosting visits by her kids from Maine, New Jersey, and California. Some of June's favorite times were tending to her lovely gardens, sight-seeing with her husband during RV trips, and serving as an altar guild member in her church in Hallowell. We miss her dearly, love her wonderfully, and celebrate her in every moment she touches our hearts. Condolences and fond memories may be shared with her family through the Knowlton & Hewins link at www.familyfirstfuneralhomes.com June will be honored at a memorial service in Boothbay, Maine, in June. In lieu of flowers, donations are welcome to the Maine General Hospice, Waterville, Maine, www.mainegeneral.org/hospice. Arrangements are under the care of Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home & Cremation Care 1 Church St. Augusta, 623-8722.
