WINTHROP ~ Karolina Skomro, 101, of Coventry, Rhode Island and formerly of Winthrop, died Friday, June 13, 2014 at Alpine Nursing Home in Coventry. She was born on Green Street in Winthrop on September 9, 1912, the daughter of the late John S. and Agnes (Surowiec) Skomro. Karolina graduated from Winthrop High School in the class of 1930. She was employed as a secretary for 45 years in the office of Wadsworth & Woodsman in Winthrop, which later became Inmont Corporation. She was also a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Winthrop. Aside from her parents, Karolina was predeceased by her two brothers, Joseph and Thomas Skomro, and her three sisters, Katherine Groves and Mary and Annie Skomro. She is survived by three nieces, Mary Jo Smith of Cranston, RI, Carol Hickey of Gardiner and Lois Groves of Alabama, and two nephews, Paul Skomro of Enfield, CT and Thomas Skomro of Falmouth, MA. Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 11:00am to 12:00 noon on Thursday, June 19th at Roberts Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop, followed by committal prayers just after noontime at Glenside Cemetery, Turkey Lane, Winthrop. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Miss Skomro’s memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
