Kathleen ("Kathy") Butler, 69, passed away surrounded by love on January 25, 2026. She was born Friday the 13th, April 1956, the daughter of Joseph and Patricia (Hill) Rocque in Augusta, Maine. She leaves behind a life beautifully stitched together with family, kindness, and creativity.
Kathleen was rarely without yarn or needle in hand. She knit everywhere she went—so devoted to her craft that she once fell asleep and continued knitting. She also loved quilting, cross-stitching, making braided rugs, and walking constantly, always on the move. Her hands were happiest when creating something warm and useful, especially for those she loved.
She had a special place in her heart for cats. Kathleen sewed quilts and knit blankets not only for her own cats, but also for shelter cats, ensuring they, too, had comfort and warmth. Her compassion extended quietly but deeply to all living things.
Kathleen cherished time spent at the family camp in Harpswell and looked forward each year to her annual trips with her husband to Bar Harbor and Acadia—places that brought her peace, joy, and treasured memories.
She worked at CMP for more than 30 years, where she progressed from department secretary to GIS group supervisor due to her dedication, analytical skills and strong work ethic.
Kathleen was predeceased by her parents. She is survived by her beloved husband Randy; her sister, Mary Purty; her brothers, Joseph Rocque Jr. and David Rocque; her son, Derek Douin of Manchester, NH; her stepdaughter, Whitney Butler of Readfield, and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend special thanks to Amber and Heather for their care, love, and support during her prolonged illness.
Kathy's last month was spent in her home, in the very special care of amazing individuals from a local Homecare group. Words cannot fully express our gratitude for the care and compassion of these ladies and gentlemen.
Visiting hours will take place at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home 1 Church Street, Augusta, ME on February 7th, from 2pm to 4pm. A funeral service will take place at Knowlton and Hewins February 8th at 2pm.
