Winthrop - Kenneth O. Gilley Jr., 69, of Knickerbocker Road, died Thursday, July 5, 2012 at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta with his loving family by his side. He was born in Augusta on February 21, 1943 the son of Kenneth and Adrienne (Dumont) Gilley. Ken graduated from Winthrop High School in the class of 1960. He was an athlete who participated in baseball and basketball and played on two state championship football teams. He started his working career at Albany Felt, and later for International Paper and Saunders Manufacturing before retiring from L.L. Bean. As an outdoorsman, Ken enjoyed hunting and fishing. Along with his son Kevin, they successfully completed two moose hunts. He was a former member of the Winthrop Fire Department and the Winthrop Lions Club. He is survived by his wife of 47 years Sally Gilley of Winthrop; a son Kevin S. Gilley and his companion Susan MacArthur of Alexander, ME; two brothers John Gilley and his wife Gloria of Skowhegan and Michael Gilley and his wife Carla of Sidney; also several nieces, nephews and cousins. A graveside memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday July 9, in Glenside Cemetery on Turkey Lane in Winthrop. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make memorial contributions to the charity of one's choice.
