Obituary

WINTHROP- Kenneth E. Webb, 68, died Monday, Feb. 9, 2004, at his home on Turkey Lane after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Winthrop on May 29, 1935, the son of Elon Bradford and Margaret (Jones) Webb. Ken was a graduate of Winthrop High School, class of 1953. He married Virginia Canwell on Aug. 28, 1954, at the then-parsonage on Elm Street in Winthrop. For most of his life, Ken drove a truck and was a self-employed excavator. He was a member of the Teamsters' Union. One of his favorite hobbies was flying radio-controlled model airplanes. He also loved hunting and fishing and, over the years, his dogs, 'Butch' and 'Gidget' and presently, 'Buttons' and 'Peeka,' were his constant companions. Ken was predeceased by his parents; a son, Gerry Webb; a daughter, Pamela Webb; his brother, Carlton Webb; and two sisters at very young ages, Cindy and Shirley Webb. He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Virginia M. Webb of Winthrop; three sons, Thomas Webb of Monmouth, Edward Webb of Augusta and Daniel Webb of Winthrop; a daughter, Karen Webb of West Port Island; a sister, Camilla Helms of Show Low, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Angela, Daniel and Jodi-Rae Nessmith, and Jason Hodgdon; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop. Burial will be held in the spring in the family lot at Glenside Cemetery, Turkey Lane, Winthrop. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to HealthReach Hospice, P.O.
