WINTHROP- Kenneth "Ken" R. Wells, 64, died unexpectedly on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at the Maine Medical Center in Portland.
Ken was born on May 28, 1959, son of the late Osborne Wells and Lucille (Tucker) Wells. He attended the elementary schools of Monmouth and was a 1978 graduate of Monmouth Academy. He grew up on Annabessacook road in North Monmouth which during his early childhood was a very quiet dirt road.
Ken was the brother of a veteran member of the American Legion Post 40 where he was also active with the Auxiliary. At the time of his death, Ken was Sergeant of Arms and also for the Auxiliary unit of the VFW Post 887.
He went around with his late brother, Arthur, and their friend Lionel to the local Veteran Organization in the areas, (VFW, American Legion, AMVETS) and signed the book.
Ken was employed at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston for several years as a cook and also worked for Arthur assisting with their trash collection route in the Winthrop area.
In his free time, Ken enjoyed offroad riding up in Eustis in the wilderness with his Broncos, talking on the CB. He was often known as "Brownie." He also loved camping up in Cathedral Pines, and recreating in the Eustis area.
Over the years, Ken was dedicated to working on the 1978 class reunion committee of Monmouth Academy. He enjoyed attending the Monmouth Community suppers held at the United Church of Monmouth packard activity center. Ken was the type of guy to lend a helping hand to anybody, from mowing their lawn to helping move something. Always doing his best to keep the community close. In his early years, he also enjoyed snowmobiling and was a motorcycle enthusiast.
He is survived by his son Patrick, and his daughter Carla, his siblings Lawrence Wells, Elenor Brennan, and Norma Wells, and two grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews including Shawn Wells and his wife Bethany Wells.
Ken was predeceased by his parents, his sister Maxine Stevens and brothers Arthur H. Wells and Linwood Wells.
Kenneth's graveside service will be held on September 14 at 11AM at Monmouth Ridge Cemetery. Followed by a celebration of life at the American Legion Post 40, Winthrop. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
