WINTHROP - Kevin Peter Selwood, 40, of Winthrop died Monday, May 3, 2004, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta following a courageous 51/2-year battle with cancer. He was born March 18, 1964, in Bangor, the son of Peter and Barbara Selwood. Kevin grew up in Winthrop and graduated from Winthrop High School in 1983. He graduated with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Maine at Orono in 1988. Kevin was employed by Supervisory of Shipbuilding at Bath Iron Works with focus on the design and construction of the Arleigh Burke Class Aegis destroyer. He was recently recognized for 15 years of dedicated service to shipbuilding by the Department of the Navy. He was passionate about hunting and fishing and spending time in the great outdoors. Exploring the woods, lakes, rivers and mountains of Maine with friends and family brought much joy to his life. Kevin was an extraordinary son and a very special brother to his sister, Kristen. He was likewise an extraordinary dad to his daughter, Lauren. He was especially happy to be coaching his daughter and her teammates in softball, basketball and soccer. He was recently predeceased by his lifelong friend, Tim Barrows. Kevin was loved and will be missed deeply by his parents, Peter and Barbara Selwood of Winthrop; his sister, Kristen Sue Selwood, of Gardiner; his daughter, Lauren Selwood, of Winthrop; his fiance?, Lisa Taulbee, of Winthrop, and her daughters, Krystal and Amanda Carter, of Warren, Mich.; lifelong friends Tom Barrows and Eric Lindholm; his special friends at Supervisory of Shipbuilding, who have been a great source of love and support; and aunts, uncles and cousins. Relatives and friends may visit from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Lake Street, Winthrop, with the Revs. Blanchette, celebrant, and Steve Rogers officiating. Donations may be made in Kevin's memory to Special Olympics Maine, Equestrian Program, 125 John Roberts Road, Suite 19, South Portland 04106-3295.
