HALLOWELL- Laura M. Dupont, 101, recipient of the Boston Post Cane this year as the oldest resident in Hallowell, died early Tuesday morning, Oct. 16, 2001, at her daughter’s home, in Hallowell. She attended schools in Hamlin. She was a housewife most of her life, busy raising her 10 children. For the last 32 years, she had resided with her daughter and son-in-law, Sylvia and Richard Fortin, at 94 Second St. Mrs. Dupont was a devout Catholic and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, in Hallowell, for more than 30 years. She was also a member of the Ladies of St. Anne at St. Bruno’s in Van Buren. Laura enjoyed playing cards, dancing and flower gardening. She also loved baking, embroidering, knitting and sewing. She was predeceased by her first husband and father of her 10 children, Frank Labrecque, her second husband, Ben Gagnon, and her third husband, Frederick Dupont; three sons, Louis, Edward, and Loomis Labrecque; and a daughter, Ester Fascione. She leaves behind three sons, Nelson and Percy Labrecque, of South Windsor, Conn., and Philip Labrecque, of Claremont, N.H.; three daughters, Rose Pelletier, of Limestone, Carlene Maynard, of Washburn, and Sylvia Fortin of Hallowell; step brothers, stepsisters, 40 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends and relatives are invited to visit 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, 68 Second St., Hallowell. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, in Hallowell, with Rev. George Hickey, celebrant. Burial will follow in Hallowell Cemetery.
