Laura Grace Hall was born in Augusta, Maine on June 22, 1944. She was the youngest of three daughters to parents Leon and Lena (Bergeron) Hall. She graduated Cony High School in 1962 and was later married in June of 1965 to Richard P. Cotter Sr. of Orrington, Maine having two children, Richard P. Cotter Jr. and Tracy L. Adkins. Laura worked selflessly helping others for over 28 years for the State of Maine Department of Human Services (OSA). She was a devoted employee and diligent worker who was recognized by her peers as the most reliable teammate in the Department citing they could depend on her to always solve the toughest challenges. Following retirement, she enjoyed traveling to visit family in Arizona, Hawaii, and Maryland in addition to adventures with friends in Maine. Laura absolutely loved her family. She adored her son, Ricky, and was very proud of his musical talents and his dedication to her, his sense of humor, and his frequent visits that always brought her joy. She was also very proud of her daughter, Tracy, and was impressed by her resilience, strength as a mother, and her dedication to her military family. Laura adored her only grandson, Mitchell, for his intellect, maturity, and kindness. She especially loved the nickname "Nana Banana" he bestowed upon her at age 3. Laura loved animals, especially her grandson's dog, Sir Bentley, and she frequently brought him presents and treats when visiting. She loved the ocean, boating, singing, dancing, and the company of happy people in her life. Her unique trademarks were her quick witted humor and the ability to make others smile. Laura is preceded in death by her parents Leon and Lena Hall, oldest sister, Leona Grant and her husband Percy Grant, and former husband, Richard P. Cotter Sr. She is survived by son Richard P. Cotter Jr. of Augusta, Maine; daughter Tracy L. Adkins of Woodbine, Maryland; son-in-law Colonel Winfield A. Adkins of Woodbine, Maryland; her dearly loved grandson Mitchell G. Adkins of Woodbine, Maryland; very special niece Gaye Mullen of Winthrop, Maine; great-niece Keltie Beaudoin (Mullen), her husband Adrian Beaudoin and their beautiful children Wes and Sammie of Winthrop, Maine; great-niece Meghan Weymouth (Mullen), husband Darren and their joyful son Carson of Winthrop, Maine; great-nephew Kevin Mullen of Winthrop, Maine; dearest older sister Lorraine Sumner, wife of Stanley Sumner of Farmingdale, Maine; nephew Brian Sumner of Los Angeles, California; nephew David Sumner of Old Orchard Beach, Maine; great-niece Lindsey Sumner of Windham, Maine; and Lindsey's beloved mother Martha Sumner of Windham, Maine; in addition to lifelong friends from Cony High School, her officemates from the State of Maine, and special neighbors at the Cony Flatiron. She often jokingly said "I've retired back to high school" as the Coney Flatiron 55+ Apartments where she lived was elegantly repurposed from her former high school in 2014. Uniquely, Laura often pointed out the large antique clock inside the Cony Flatiron which adorned the wall for over 80 years that reflected the quote "Time is fleeting." Due to her love for the outdoors, Laura's wishes were to have a private gravesite service with family and close friends in attendance. She will be laid to rest at Forest Grove Cemetery in Augusta, Maine on Monday, November 15, 2021 at 11:00am. Laura had a warm-heart and in lieu of flowers, she preferred donations be sent to help others in her memory to Bread of Life Ministries online via mainebreadoflife.org or directly to mailing address: 159 Water Street, Augusta, Maine 04330. Laura will forever treasure her family and friends and departs with a full-heart to be with her Heavenly Father with eternal memories, love, and blessings.
