WINTHROP - Lawrence L. Kaherl, 80, of Route 133 died Friday, Jan. 25, 2008, at Heritage Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Winthrop. He was born in Winthrop on Sept. 2, 1927, the son of Irvin and Jessie (Hammond) Kaherl. Lawrence attended Winthrop schools and had worked at several local mills, including Bonafide, Inmont and Carlton Woolen Mill. He enjoyed living life to the fullest and making music. Lawrence played the mandolin, guitar and harmonica, and sang. He loved to entertain people and make them laugh. He was a member of the Over the Hill Gang band and enjoyed his Tuesday night 'jam' sessions. At the age of 69, Lawrence could be seen riding his Honda motorcycle and just 'rammin' around.' Most of all, Lawrence loved being with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a lifelong resident of Winthrop and was living less than a mile from the house in which he was born. He was predeceased by his wife, Florence, in 1996; and several brothers and sisters. He is survived by two sons, Carlton Kaherl and his wife, Jane, of New Sharon, and Bradley Kaherl and his wife, Anne, of Winthrop; a daughter, Carleen Schmidt and her husband, Erlon, of Fayette; 10 grandchildren, Shane, Jason, Brady, Eric, Johanna, Larry, Jamie, Randy, Corey and Cobey; 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. Lawrence was also survived by his best friend and companion, Patricia Wing. Visiting will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28, at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop, where a celebration of his life will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday. Burial will be in Glenside Cemetery in the spring.
