Lee Edward Maillet passed away on August 1, 2024 after a long battle with multiple myeloma cancer. Lee was the son of Leo F. and Ida Mae Lefebvre Maillet born in Rumford, Maine on March 5, 1950. Lee was accepted to Bentley College, Waltham, Massachusetts, during his junior year of high school. However, his parents decided they did not want their son going to the greater Boston area until he graduated from Mexico High School, which occurred in 1968. Lee received a dual degree in Accounting and Finance from Bentley College in 1972.
His first professional employment was at Central Maine Power Company in Augusta, Maine. Lee rose through the accounting ranks at CMP becoming the supervisor of Maine Yankee Atomic Power Company's Accounting Department. Moving forward, he was Maine Yankee's Director of Administration in Augusta and Wiscasset, Maine. He was tapped to be the Treasurer and Chief Accounting Officer for Maine Yankee. Lee furthered his education by taking nuclear management courses at Rutgers University and the Wharton School of Business. In 1991, he was recruited by the Tennessee Valley Authority as part of an executive management team bringing online Units 1 and 2 at Watts Bar Nuclear at Spring City, Tennessee and Unit 1 at Browns Ferry in Decatur, Alabama. Upon retirement from TVA, Lee became a consultant at TVA's Bellefonte Nuclear Plant in Scottsboro, Alabama. In 2014, Lee and Diane returned to their beloved home State of Maine settling in Hallowell.
Lee met his wife, Diane Hammond, at Central Maine Power Company after she was assigned to his desk. Lee often borrowed accounting paper and pens from his well-stocked desk in an effort to get to know her. The couple married in 1974 and lived and raised their daughter in Winthrop, Maine. Lee and Diane recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Lee was an avid fly fisherman who enjoyed catching trout in the Allagash region of Maine. He didn't realize he had the talent for wood carving until his wife signed him up for a class. He joined a carving group at the William Cohen Community Center in Hallowell. Always having an interest, he became an antiques dealer attending auctions and selling wares at the Wiscasset Antiques Mall. He enjoyed restoring vintage paintings, frames and small pieces of wooden furniture.
Lee is survived by his wife, Diane, their daughter, Stephanie Maillet and her husband Robert Fathman. Grandchildren, Sawyer Zand, Sawyer Fathman and Emerson Fathman of Harvard, Massachusetts. Two sisters, Nancy Flick and her husband, Ray of Turner, Maine. Rita Bolduc and her husband, Giles of Mexico, Maine.
