Obituary

AUGUSTA -- Leona H. Grant, 79, of Augusta, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012, at MaineGeneral Rehabilition and Nursing Care at Gray Birch in Augusta. Leona was born in Augusta on Oct. 27, 1932, the daughter of Leon C. and Lena (Bergeron) Hall. She graduated from Cony High School in 1951 and was married to Percy Grant in 1953. She was employed by the State of Maine with the Department of Transportation and the Department of Environmental Protection for 20 years. Later in her career, she worked for Depositors Trust / Key Bank for nearly 20 years, retiring in 1990. Leona enjoyed bowling, being outdoors, camping, boating and going for adventure rides, and spending time with her family. She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Percy Grant, in 2008. She is survived by her daughter, Gaye Mullen, of Winthrop; son-in-law, Michael Mullen, of Winthrop; granddaughters Keltie Mullen and her fiance, Adrian Boudoin, of Wayne, Meghan Mullen and her partner, Darren Weymouth, and great-grandson, Carson Weymouth, all of Winthrop; grandson, Kevin Mullen, of Winthrop; sisters Lorraine Sumner and her husband, Stanley, of Farmingdale, and their family; nephew David Sumner and wife, Martha, and great-niece Lindsey, all of Portland; nephew, Brian Sumner, of Los Angeles; Laura Hall, of Augusta, and her family; niece, Tracy Adkins and husband, Winfield, and great-nephew Mitchell, of Maryland; and nephew, Richard Cotter, of Augusta. Much appreciation and many thanks to the nursing staff at Gray Birch Rehabilitation Center for their caring services. Friends and relatives are invited to visit from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, at Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Homes, 1 Church St., Augusta where a celebration of Leona's life will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012. Burial will be in Forest Grove Cemetery, Augusta, at a later date. Memorial donations may be made in Leona's memory to the American Heart Association , 51 U.S. Route 1, Suite M, Scarborough, 04074-7134; or the charity of one's choice .
