WINTHROP -- Leroy 'Roy' Paul Frost, 84, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 21, 2010, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta, after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. Roy was born in Winthrop on Dec. 9, 1925, the son of Glendon and Helen (Duffy) Frost. He was drafted into the Army at the age of 18 during his senior year in high school. He served in Italy during World War II as a corporal and returned home to graduate from Winthrop High School with the class of 1947, where he excelled playing football, baseball and basketball. After high school, Roy continued playing in American Legion baseball and on the town of Winthrop team. As a young man, Roy was invited to try out for minor league baseball and coached Winthrop Little League and Babe Ruth teams for several years. On June 29, 1956, he married Marion Palleschi. In 1991, he retired from Tex Tech Industries after 40 years of employment. He was a great fan of the Winthrop High School athletic teams and enjoyed watching both his children and grandchildren play for the Ramblers, rarely missing a game. He was a great dog lover, enjoyed bowling, was an avid horse racing fan and a loyal fan of the Boston sports teams. He was also a member of the American Legion Alfred W. Maxwell Jr. Post 40. He was predeceased by his parents and his brothers, Thomas G. and Francis H. Frost. He is survived by his wife of 54 years; his son, Robert, of Winthrop; his daughter, Robin (Frost) Ouellette and her husband, Steve, and granddaughters Jill and Kelsey Ouellette, all of Winthrop; his sister, Lucille (Frost) Shaw and her husband, Kilburn, of Leesburg, Fla.; as well as several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 24, at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop, where a celebration of his life will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday. Interment will follow with full military honors at Glenside Cemetery, Turkey Lane, Winthrop, after which all are welcome to attend a gathering at Joe Palleschi's home at 380 Fogg Road, Readfield. For those who wish, contributions in Roy's name may be made to Winthrop Athletic Boosters, and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
