Obituary

Wayne- Leslie “Les” Z. Lewandowski, 85, died unexpectedly at his home.

Les was born in Jersey City, NJ on December 9, 1940 the son of the late Zenon and Anne (Nowicki) Lewandowski. He graduated from St. Peters Prep School in Jersey City. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology, in Hoboken, NJ. He later earned an Associate Degree in Respiratory Therapy from Manchester Community College in Manchester, CT. After graduating from Stevens Institute he enlisted and served in the United States Air Force.

On December 29, 1962, he married the love of his life, Carol Ann Muller at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Jersey City. Together, after Les returned from active duty, they made their home in Hebron, CT and raised their family there.

Les worked at Pratt Whitney for ten years in the design and testing field, he spent the next twenty three years as an assistant manager in hospital engineering at Manchester Memorial Hospital in Manchester, CT. He then returned to school to earn his degree in Respiratory Therapy which he practiced for eight years at Backus Memorial Hospital in Norwich, CT. In September of 2006 Les and Carol retired and moved to Wayne, Maine.

In his spare time he loved sailing on Moosehead Lake and local lakes in Maine and Connecticut, camping and traveling around the United States, he loved hiking and photographing all of his adventures. He loved entertaining family and friends and was the happiest when he was surrounded by family. He was life long communicant of the Catholic Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister for more than 40 years.

Les was predeceased by a daughter, Veronica Lewandowski in 2023 and a brother, Gene Lewandowski. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Carol Lewandowski of Wayne, three children: Peter and his wife Neda Lewandowski of Brazil, Michael Lewandowski of TN and Denise and her husband Michael Parlin of Maine, as well as four grandchildren, Kara Lewandowski of CA, Kevin Lewandowski of MA, Ryan Rattray of MA, Christina Rattray of RI and nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Winthrop, ME on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at 10:00am. Arrangements and guidance are under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin Street, Winthrop, ME.
