WINTHROP - Lila Gale Lincoln, 86, died on Saturday, December 16th, 2006 at her home in Winthrop. She was born in Winthrop on January 1st, 1920, the daughter of Charles Pretz and Ann Elizabeth (Lawrenson) Gale. Lila received her education from schools in Winthrop, Maine and Lowell, Massachusetts. She was Town Clerk in Wayne from 1940-1973 and Tax Collector from 1973-1981. She was most proud of being one of thirteen people to complete an eleven week seminar in management practices for Maine town and cities from the University Maine Augusta. She and Ruth D. Ault were the only females to finish the course out of thirty-two men and women in the class. For her retirement, Wayne held a Lila Lincoln Day at the great Wayne Fair and a grand retirement party for her, along with Tink and Hazel Lincoln, at the Wayne Yacht Club. It was something she appreciated and never forgot. Lila was active in the Wayne community in years past. She taught Sunday school, Methodist Youth Group of the Wayne Community Church, and was involved with the Scouts. She was past Matron of Order of the Eastern Star, Anthony Wayne Chapter, an officer in the Wayne Yacht Club, and a member of the Wayne Friday Club. She was active in the Republican Party of State, Winthrop B.P.W., Wayne Library Association Board, school PTA, National Active and Retired Federal Employees Assoc., Wayne Athletic Association, and was a history helper of Wayne schools. For many years, she and her husband, Tink, operated a summer lunch room in Wayne called Harry's Place, where they rented canoes, boats, outboard motors, and their cottage. During WWII, Lila served veterans in the local Red Cross chapter, Aircraft Warning Service, Emergency Feeding Program, and operated a drill press at the Wayne Crutch Factory. She also loved to play bridge with her bridge club. Lila was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Waldo 'Tink' Lincoln, on November 28th 1998; her great grandson, Christopher Wicks, on November 21st 2005; her sister, Attalie Hodson; and her great nephew, Douglas Hodson. She is survived by her daughter, Gail Guerette, of Winthrop; her son, Charles D. Lincoln & his wife, Linda, of Winthrop; her five grandchildren, Larry Guerette of Nashua NH, Dick Guerette & his wife, Sue, of Winthrop, Julie A. Wicks & her husband, Wayne, of Port St. Richey, FL, Sarah Lincoln of Richmond, VA and Nadiah Lincoln of Tampa, FL; four great grandchildren, Matthew Wicks, Douglas Guerette, and Bennett and Morgan Guerette; six nieces, Jane Perkins, Janice Buzzell, Pam Smith, Ann Dooling, and Lisa and Elaine Lincoln; and two great nieces, Emily Dooling and Danielle Smith. A memorial celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 28th at the Wayne Community Church, with Rev. Kyung-hee Sa officiating. Following the service, all are welcome to attend a reception at the church. A private family burial will be held in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
