MOUNT VERNON ? Lillian Isabelle Augusta Webber, 94, of Pond Road in Mount Vernon, died Wednesday, May 15, 2002, with her loving family and friends at her side at MaineGeneral Medical Center after a brief illness. Lillian will be missed by all whose lives she touched, and she will be remembered for her kindness and love to others. Lillian always brought a smile to those she met. Lillian was born in Hallowell, Jan. 2, 1908, the daughter of Sidney G. and Lydia Ann Rowland Dawbin, and attended Hallowell schools and graduated from Hallowell High School. Lillian was a homemaker who devoted her life to her family. While raising her children, Mrs. Webber was employed as a bookkeeper at the Edwards Mill in Augusta. She was also employed for 17 years at the Elizabeth Arden Estate in Mount Vernon. On March 20, 1927, Lillian was married to Joseph T. Hayes in Hallowell. She was predeceased by Joseph, her first husband. On Nov. 26, 1929, Lillian and John H. Webber of Mount Vernon were married. John passed away on Jan. 13, 1976. Mrs. Webber lived life to the fullest. She enjoyed family and friends, had many hobbies and was an ardent cribbage player. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Mount Vernon and she enjoyed singing in the choir. She belonged to the Women's Mission Society and held the position of treasurer. Because of Lillian's concern for children, she knitted mittens for the Mount Vernon Elementary School for many years. Mrs. Webber was the oldest resident of Mount Vernon and the recipient and holder of the Boston Post Gold Cane. She was predeceased by four brothers and four sisters. Survivors include her sister, Hester Ellis of Hallowell; four sons, Francis (Skip) T. Hayes and his wife, Helen, of Syracuse, N.Y., Walter E. Webber and his wife, Marion, of Rome, N.Y., Raymond A. Webber and his wife, Patricia, of Augusta, Harold A. Webber and his wife, Marlene, of Mount Vernon; and one daughter, Lillian (Betty) E. White of Mount Vernon; and 23 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of Mrs. Webber's life will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, May 20, at First Baptist Church in Mount Vernon with the Rev. Carl Storms officiating. Following the celebration, all are invited to remain at the church for a time of fellowship. Burial will follow at Stevens Cemetery in Mount Vernon.
