WINTHROP - Lisa Nicholson, formerly of Portland, died at her parents' home on Sunday, Jan. 21, 2007, of natural causes. She was born on June 3, 1959, in McCook, Neb. Lisa attended schools in Anamosa, Iowa, until moving to Winthrop in 1973. She was a member of the Winthrop High School, graduating with the class of 1977. After a long career in commercial printing, Lisa found a profession that gave her extreme satisfaction and a sense of contributing to humanity when she became a certified residential medication aide. She was employed at Port Resources of South Portland until suffering a disabling condition due to improper diagnosis and treatment of an endrocrinologic disease. Lisa is survived by her parents, Clyde and Joan Nicholson, of Winthrop; her sisters, Holly Nicholson and her husband, Ron Poirier, of Gray, and Leslie Suarez and her husband, Antonio, of Waterford, Conn.; and her dear nephews, Nicholas and Trevor Suarez, who spent time with her every summer. Lisa's greatest joy was doting on her cats, whom she considered her children. Her social life was curtailed by caring for a diabetic cat, Joey, who is now with Lisa. Her greatest source of pride was her family. She enjoyed the company of a multitude of friends in Portland and keeping in touch with her longtime Winthrop friends. Her family will never forget her dry humor, her philosophical and spiritual nature, and her beautiful smile. You will always be with us, dearest Lisa. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop, followed by a celebration-of-life reception at 2 p.m. at Sully's restaurant in Winthrop.
