Obituary

SIDNEY - Loretta June 'Tilly' Tillson, 70, died Friday evening, Jan. 16, 2004, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Thayer Unit, in Waterville. She was born in Calais on Dec. 12, 1933, the daughter of Merton and Winona (Bryant) Graham. Mrs. Tillson attended Belgrade High School and graduated from Waterville High School. She married Robert N. Tillson in Belgrade on April 10, 1953. Mrs. Tillson was employed at Augusta State Hospital (now AMHI) and retired in June 1985 as a nursing assistant. She was a member of the Maine State Employees Association, Order of the Eastern Star, and AARP. Early in their marriage, she and her husband tore down the old Belgrade Depot and used the building's materials to build together their first of several houses. Some of her hobbies included landscape and oil painting, crocheting, bowling, antiquing and dancing. An outdoors person, she also enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with her family for a good part of her life. Most of all, Tilly loved spending time with and spoiling her grandchildren. Mrs. Tillson was predeceased by her parents; four brothers, Merton Jr., Merrill, Albert and Danial Graham; and three sisters, Dorothy Hanson, Myrtle Wyman and Kathryn Leighton. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Robert N. Tillson of Sidney; her four sons, Robert E. Tillson and his wife, Julie, of New Haven, Vt., Lee R. Tillson and his wife, Sherry, Gerry M. Tillson and his wife, Carmen, and Edwin H. Tillson and his wife, Sherry, all of Sidney; daughter-in-law Janice Tillson of Winslow; one sister, Rachel Eye of West Haven, Conn.; eleven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Reynolds Hill Cemetery in Sidney.
