Louis Lopez, 79, of Augusta, Maine, passed away on January 18, 2026, at Gray Birch Long Term Care Facility. Louis was born on December 7, 1946, in New York City to Ignacio and Lilia Lopez. He spent much of his working life in the construction industry, including employment with Bryant Tool, where he drove trucks and took on various roles within the field. A hardworking man, Louis was equally known for his sense of humor—he was a true jokester who loved engaging people in comical conversations and teasing those who he was close with. Above all else, Louis cherished his family. He married Debbie Bailey, and together they lived in Astoria, Queens New York, where they welcomed their son, Richard Lopez, in February of 1979. Summers were often spent away from NYC and spent in Maine, where they visited Debbie's father, Rodney Bailey, at his camp on Cobbossee Lake in Litchfield. Louis grew to love Maine's quieter, country lifestyle, spending his time fishing and enjoying the outdoors alongside family and friends he met in Maine. Though Louis and Debbie later divorced, they remained lifelong friends. In 2004, following the birth of his grandson, Kaden Lopez, on December 6, Louis made the decision to move to Maine to be closer to his son and grandson and begin a new chapter of life. He adapted quickly to Maine life, forming lasting friendships and becoming deeply rooted in the community. Louis enjoyed watching westerns, working on crossword puzzles, and gathering with family and friends for summer barbecues, holidays, and birthday celebrations. His warmth, humor, and love for those closest to him will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Louis is survived by his son Richard Lopez and wife Shana. Grandson Kaden Lopez, Step Granddaughter's Kasey Beach and Samantha Vintinner. Four great grandchildren. His ex-wife and lifelong friend Debra Cortese, his Brother Thomas Lopez and wife Divina, Sister Marian Schum and husband Robert. As well as many nephews and nieces. Louis was preceded in death by his father Ignacio Lopez in 1989 and his Mother Lilia Lopez in 2010. There will be no service for Louis as these were his wishes, however we will hold a small get-together in remembrance of Louis Lopez at a later date and time.
