Obituary

VASSALBORO—Lowell R. Underwood, 75, of Vassalboro, died Thursday April 5, 2012 at his home. He was born in San Francisco, California, July 23, 1936 the son of Royal and Genevieve (Coons) Underwood. He grew up in California and received his Bachelors degree form San Jose State. Lowell served in the U.S. Air Force from 1953 to 1957, attaining the rank of Airman First Class. Mr. Underwood worked for IBM as an engineer for many years. He married Claire Smith in 1991 and they moved to Maine in 2002, making their home in Vassalboro. Lowell enjoyed the shooting sports, especially trap and skeet. He was also a member of Ducks Unlimited. Lowell was predeceased by his sister, Jackie Underwood. He is survived by his wife, Claire Underwood; step-sons, Paul Montague and his wife, Edna, of Wilton and Dwight Montague, of Rochester, NY; a step-daughter, Jean Montague, of Irvine, CA and two step-grandchildren, James and Daniel Montague. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made in lieu of flowers to Ducks Unlimited, 1 Waterfowl Way, Memphis, TN 38120 or the Northfield Mt. Hermon School, One Lamplighter Way, Mt. Hermon, MA 01354. Arrangements are in the care of Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, One Church Street, Augusta.
