MANCHESTER - Luke Jeremy Hopkins, 19, (Lukie, Gimp, Lukedawg68), died Feb. 28, 2004, as a result of injuries suffered in a snowmobile accident. Born on May 16, 1984, in Augusta, he grew up and lived his entire life with his family in Manchester. Lukie was currently working as a flooring installer for his uncle's business, Bill's Flooring Service, while taking time off from school after completing a semester-and-a-half at the University of Southern Maine. He graduated from Maranacook Community School in Readfield in June 2002. Lukie served more than six years as a volunteer firefighter for the Manchester Fire Department. He had a love for life and everything that went with it, including family, friends, hockey, his 1968 Chevy Camaro, loud music (ba-boom), hats and the outdoors. His love for the outdoors was inspired by his father, Luke, who took him hunting, fishing (Moosehead trips), boating and snowmobiling whenever the opportunity arose. He loved to give his mom, 'Numma,' a hard time (i.e. 'Cook me something') when they weren't having a heart-to-heart by the fireplace. Lukie was a protector to his sisters, Tamrin and Kayla. He'd listen to Kayla sing and would proudly proclaim, 'That's my sister.' He was also a brother to more than just his sisters, whether it was fishin' with Josh and Justin, hangin' with Tim (Tammy), Brandon and the boys, or chattin' with JT and Meme. No matter how busy he was with work, school or family, he always found time for the love of his life, Megan. In his mind, she was perfect in every way. Surviving are his parents, Luke and Diane Hopkins of Manchester; sisters Kayla Hopkins of Manchester and Tamrin Goodman of Augusta; and girlfriend Megan Gasbarrone of Manchester. Other family members include grandparents Harriet and Willard Blanche Sr. and great-grandmother Ruth Blanche of Manchester; brother-in-law Bryn Goodman and niece Avril Goodman of Augusta; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Friends and relatives are invited to visit 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, at Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta. A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, at the funeral home with the Rev. Stan Moody officiating. Lukie's family wishes contributions be made to the Luke J.
