MANCHESTER ? Madeleine Fisher Reed, 87, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003, at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation & Nursing Care, Graybirch, Augusta. She was born in Boston on Sept. 6, 1915, the daughter of John and Helen (Bullock) Fisher. Madeleine graduated from Girls Latin School in Boston. Shortly after her marriage to Vincent C. Reed on Sept. 6, 1937, she and her husband moved to Maine to raise their family. They resided in Wiscasset until moving to West Gardiner in 1970. Madeleine joined the Order of Eastern Star, Garrison Hill Chapter 158, in October 1942. After serving in several appointive offices, she was elected worthy matron for the first time in 1946-1947, and again in 1981 and 1984. She was appointed grand warder of the Grand Chapter by Sister Gladys Raeside, worthy grand matron, in 1970. She was elected associate grand conductress of the Grand Chapter of Maine in 1974 and served as worthy grand matron with Brother Donald Pierce in 1977-1978. She was honored by an appointment to the Heart Foundation of the General Grand Chapter in 1982, and became a member of Crescent Chapter 54 in East Boothbay with the merger of those two chapters in 1996. She and her husband, a past grand patron in 1990-1991, traveled extensively to chapter meetings in Maine and the surrounding jurisdictions until Vincent's death in 1991. Madeleine was predeceased by her husband; two brothers, John and George Fisher; and a sister, Ruth Anderson. She is survived by her son, Charles Reed, and his wife, Susan, of Manchester; her daughter, Deborah Camporiale, and her husband, Tony, of Atlanta, Ga.; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of Madeleine's life will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25, at the Manchester Community Church, with the Rev. Ernie Johnson officiating. She will be buried next to her husband in Gracelawn Memorial Park at a later date.
