WINTHROP - Madeline 'Maddy' Sarah Lemieux died from complications of diabetes on May 8, 2010, at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Nursing at Glenridge in Augusta. Maddy was born on April 24, 1925, on Clark Street in Winthrop, to Emile and Claire (Bruneau) Couture. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Leo; her brother, Emile Jr.; and sister Bertha. Maddy is survived by her brother, Russell Couture, formerly of Winthrop; her sister-in-law, Yvonne; and extended family from East Coast to West Coast and Canada. Maddy graduated from Winthrop High School in 1943 and went on to attend nursing school at Sisters Hospital in Waterville. Upon receiving her registered nursing degree, Maddy worked for many years at Sisters Hospital. In 1951, Maddy married Louis 'Leo' Lemieux in Fairfield. Maddy and Leo relocated to Manhattan Beach, Calif., where she was a nurse at Gardena Hospital for many years. Maddy returned to Maine and settled in Waterville, where she worked as a nurse at Mount St. Joseph until her retirement. Maddy's family wishes to acknowledge those special people who took great care of her while living at Woodlands Assisted Living in Hallowell; the nurses and staff at Glenridge Rehabilitation; and the staff at MaineGeneral's hospice. Funeral services will be held at a later date. In Maddy's memory, donations for Haiti Relief may be made in care of the Rev.
