TOPSHAM ? Maj. Aldore Simon Lajoie USAF (retired), 77, formerly of Freeport, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003, at the Maine Veterans' Home, Augusta, after a lengthy illness. He was born at Cyr Plantation, one of nine children of Rosario and Anna (Lavasseur) Lajoie. He attended schools in Augusta, graduated from the University of Maine at Orono and attended George Washington University. He was a navigator with the Air Force during World War II and worked on the Air Force missile program in tandem with NASA until his retirement from active duty in 1967 after 20 years of service. He was an Eagle Scout and enjoyed the outdoors, bowling and spending time with his family. He was also an avid Red Sox fan. He enjoyed people, conversation and welcomed anyone into his home with a handshake and a smile. He is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Marilyn Pierce Lajoie of Topsham; a son, Lee Lajoie of Auburn; daughters Lisa Hewitt of Massachusetts and Lori Stupinski of West Bath; four grandchildren, three brothers and two sisters. A private graveside service will be held in the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Maine Veterans Home, 310 Cony Road, Augusta 04330.
