RICHMOND ? Margaret A. Massey, 69, of Marston Road, died peacefully on May 22, 2003, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Waterville Campus, after a long illness. She was born in Augusta on May 8, 1934, the daughter of Perley and Harriett (Lambert) Whitten. Margaret had worked as a sole layer in the shoe industry for many years. She was a member of the South Gardiner Baptist Church. She was an avid beano player who also enjoyed playing cards and reading. She was predeceased by her husband, Albert Massey Sr., in 1981, a brother, Perley Whitten, and a sister, Lorraine Gilley. She is survived by two sons, Albert Massey III and his wife Gail of Richmond; Richard Massey Sr. and his fiance Dawn of Pittston; a daughter, Harriette Cunningham and her husband Ron of Pittston; her brothers, Paul Whitten and his wife Elsie of Manchester and Pearl Whitten Jr. of Gardiner; four sisters, Priscilla Wing and her husband Lawrence of Winthrop, Pamela Kennerson and her husband Roland of West Gardiner, April Mathieu and her husband Lorien of Litchfield, and Paula Saul and her husband Allan of Waterville; seven grandchildren, Pattylynn Massey, Crystal Massey, Richard Massey Jr., Jessica Massey, Jennifer Massey, Derek Cunningham and Jessica Cunningham; a great-granddaughter Paige O'Conner; several nieces, nephews and cousins. At Margaret's request, there will be no visiting hours. A graveside memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Thursday, May 29, in the Hallowell Cemetery, Hallowell, with the Rev. Stuart Hilton pastor of the South Gardiner Baptist Church officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kennebec Kidney Center, Civic Center Drive, Augusta 04330. For those who wish to attend, there will be a gathering of family and friends at the South Gardiner Baptist Church directly following the service.
