READFIELD ? Margaret L. Payson, 81, of Readfield, died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2001, at Mercy Hospital, in Portland. She was born in Hallowell, July 21, 1920, the daughter of Kirk and Ruth Laflin. Margaret was married to Clarence Payson Sr. She worked for many years in the local shoe shops. Later, she worked for the state taxation department and at Kents Hill School. Mrs. Payson enjoyed crocheting, gardening and cooking. She was known for her great cooking. She was predeceased by her husband, Clarence. Margaret is survived by her son, Clarence 'Sonny' Payson Jr., and his wife, Janice, of Readfield; a daughter, Margaret 'Peggy' Ridley, and her husband, John, of Lisbon, along with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Relatives and friends may visit 1-2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop, where a funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Burial will be at the Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery.
