FALMOUTH - Margaret 'Peggy' Lewis Widdoes, 83, formerly of Augusta, died Saturday, April 17, 2010, at Sedgewood Commons in Falmouth, where she has resided for the last four years. Peggy spent most of her life in Augusta, and graduated from Cony High School. Most summers were spent at the family cottage at Ocean Point, where she and her dad, Fritz Lewis, were well known for their hobby of skin diving for lobsters. Peggy continued her schooling in Bryn Mawr, Pa., and returned to Augusta to work as an assistant in the governor's office. She was drawn to the game of golf and became a standout in Maine golfing circles winning numerous titles, among them club champion at the Augusta Country Club. Peggy was well known for her artistic talents, specializing in Disney-like cartoon characters. She had numerous offers to illustrate for greeting card companies, but chose to remain in Maine. Her pride and joy were her son, Jimmy, and her four grandsons, Devon, Duncan, Cameron and Colin. Peggy was predeceased by her parents, Fritz and Bea, and her former husband, Andrew. She is survived by her son, Jimmy Widdoes of Auburn; a brother, Bruce Lewis, and his wife, Hona, of Portland; her four grandsons and a daughter-in-law, Susan Widdoes. Visiting will be held Friday, April 23, from noon to 1 p.m. at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta, where a funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Augusta.
